Benign tumors in the oral cavity resemble the tissue of origin, occurring in adults, between the third, fourth and fifth decades of life. There is no predilection for gender or race, and is associated to hyperplastic growths that can be reversible, depending on the stimulus that causes them. Fibroids in the oral mucosa present as an elevated lesion of normal color, smooth surface and sessile base or occasionally pedunculated. It may be small or in rare cases it might measure several centimeters in diameter, well defined, and its growth is almost always slow (López, Villarroel, Rivera, & Lazarde, 2000). We present two cases of giant benign tumors in the oral cavity of patients who attended the dental office in Guayaquil, Ecuador, with the objective of reporting its characteristics and diagnostic process:
1.- Male patient, 27 years of age, good general condition, presenting an exophytic lesion of approximately 3 centimeters by 1.5 centimeters in diameter, soft consistency, pale pink color, sessile base, smooth surface and defined edges, left retromolar area, asymptomatic and mobile. Complementary exams within normal limits.
2.- Male patient, 67 years old, hypertensive and diabetic. Exophytic lesion of approximately 2.5 cm by 1 cm in diameter, slightly soft consistency, norm- colored, sessile base, smooth surface and defined edges, in superior anteroalveolar zone of the ridge at the level of tooth 23, asymptomatic and mobile.
The behavior in both cases was exeresis and biopsy.
