Abstract

The research responds to the need to prepare the elderly university pedagogical professional for self- healthcare in times of the Covid-19 pandemic, in the Health Education process during their permanent training from the increase in the indices of aging population and the particularities of teaching with the demands imposed by the circumstances of the pandemic; That is why the objective was to apply a strategy proposal, based on a pedagogical training model for the self-healthcare of the elderly pedagogical professional in Higher Education. The analytical-synthetic and inductive- deductive methods were used, as well as the techniques of documentary review, interviews, and surveys to know the impact and the transformations generated after the application of the proposal. The population was 93 older professors from the University of Las Tunas and the non-probabilistic sample was 24 volunteers. The proposal was validated with the methods Pre-pedagogical experiment and Experiential pedagogical experience, based on educational workshops and practical activities. The results corroborate that the systematic practice of planned, personalized and directed physical exercises according to the particularities and needs of the elderly is ideal for self-health care and constitutes an important tool to face the conditions imposed in times of pandemic It is concluded that the proposed strategy allowed to corroborate the impact and transformations in the lifestyles of the elderly pedagogical professional, which promote their well-being.
